FEEDBACK FROM GLASGOW TOURS

I went on a personal tour with Dougie Baird, a man who knows Glasgow very well, but someone who shares his view of the city in a way that avoids an automatic patter. Instead you get real stories, a few jokes and a clear sense of what it is like to live in this city. This isn't a strictly 'historical' tour - it's more like sharing a couple of hours with a local who's as interested in your views and questions as he is in sharing his experiences. The tour took three hours - Dougie met me at my hotel and we walked to the West End of Glasgow, crossed the Clyde then came back up through Merchant City. Wear sensible shoes, be prepared for the changeable weather and tune your ear to a Glaswegian accent. The tour began at 5.30pm and it was a wonderful way to round off a day in the city after seeing more formal sites.

Hey Dougie,
Sorry it took me so long to reply; I have been quite busy. Thanks again for showing us around Glasgow; it was great to know something about the place we are visiting from a local.
And thanks for the tip on sitting on the left hand side of the train; that was a great trip.
You're welcome for stopping that truck from hitting you.
Good luck continuing your walking tours and try to contact New Europe to see if they are interested in starting in Glasgow.
Cheers,
Justin

 Hi Dougie,

This is Egils' wife, Holly. I wanted to thank you so much for giving Emily and me such great exposure! And I loved the web page with our picture. Thanks! Egils enjoyed your tour immensely and we are recommending it to all of our friends. You are a great ambassador for Glasgow and Scotland. I wish you fantastic success in your present and future and look forward to meeting you soon and taking this tour for myself.

We just wanted to say thank you for the guided walk last Friday evening.
We may not have looked as if we were enjoying it as the weather worsened, but we did.  It was very entertaining and informative and we learned all sorts of things that we wouldn't otherwise have known.  It was lovely to be shown round by a true Glaswegian and it was evident from both you and Margaret and Jean how proud you are of your city.

We made use of the open top tour bus for the 2 days which we found very interesting, whilst also giving us a well earned sit down!  We visited the cathedral and Provands Landing (I hope this is right) and the Necropolis (on your recommendation - unfortunately we didn't see any deer).  The Kelvingrove Museum (including organ recital), the transport museum, the tenement house (v. good indeed).  We also managed to squeeze in a bit of retail therapy in Buchanan Street.  We thought the Princes Square arcade was v. impressive.

We had a lovely weekend and discovered that Glasgow is a very friendly place and has a tremendous amount to offer the visitor.  We marvelled at the architecture and also had some jolly good food.

We're hoping to have another weekend in the city before too long to continue our sightseeing.
Once again, many thanks.
regards
