Stronachlacher is a small hamlet on the western shore of Loch Katrine . Stronachlachar pier is where the SS Sir Walter Scott  visits on it`s round trip . It is situated 11 miles (17 km) north west of Aberfoyle by road and is 4 miles (6 km) west of Inversnaid on the east shore of Loch Lomond.

Loch Katrine: Made famous by the real-life exploits of Rob Roy MacGregor, romanticised as a Highland hero by Sir Walter Scott.

Factor’s Island: Rob Roy held the Duke of Montrose’s Factor, Graham of Killearn for ransom here after a cruel attack on his wife and home.

The Stronachlachar Pier Tearoom

The Pier Tea Room is open from 10am seven days a week throughout the holiday season..
  • The finest Italian coffees
  • Home-made soups
  • Paninis and special ‘club' sandwiches
  • Home-made cakes and scones
  • Teas - and a choice of cold drinks,
    snacks and ice-creams.

Visit the Pier Tearoom website for more information

Rounding the loch to Stronachlachar, you come to the pier at Stronachlachar where the steamer calls in the mornings. There is a tearoom, a phone box and fabulous views down the loch to the east. A picturesque island - Eilean Dharag - lies just off the pier.

A 4.5 mile walk/bike ride/drive leads from Stronachlachar to Inversnaid on the West Highland Way at Loch Lomond.

Bairdstravel had Soup of the day which was leak and potato . Excellent

for such a cold day. The staff were very attentive and young chap on the till was a credit to his family.

Message from the owners

Hello Douglas
Thank you for coming to see us and your kind words.
We are a new business and good reviews are especially welcome.
The 'young chap on the till' was our Son, Samuel, so thank you again.
Kind regards
Carole Cranefield

Loch Katrine was, and still is used to supply water to Glasgow. It was this fresh water supply which first helped rid Glasgow of the scourge of typhus when the supply was first established in 1859. The pipeline from the loch to the reservoirs just outside Glasgow is still seen as a wonder of Victorian engineering.
