        THE TROSSACHS

The Trossachs in Scotland is an area of oustanding beauty and is sometimes known as "Scotland in Minature" due to its diversity in landscape. It has inspired many famous people from Sir Walter Scott who wrote the novel "Lady of the Lake" after spending time near Loch Katrine, and Queen Victoria who fell in love with the area and spent many happy times on holiday in the Trossachs.

Now forming a major part of Scotland's first National Park including Argyll and Loch Lomond, the area has a plan of sustainable development to ensure the balance between providing visitor enjoyment and the enviroment. The principal towns are Callander to the North, Aberfoyle to the West and Balloch which is also the gateway town to the National Park.

SS Sir Walter Scott & Loch Katrine

The Steamship Sir Walter Scott has been sailing majestically on these waters for over a century, allowing today’s visitor the opportunity to experience a bygone age which inspired the poet Sir Walter Scott . Breathtaking scenery unfolds as the ‘grand old lady’ sails serenely on the fresh water of the loch. The gentle rhythm and almost inaudible sound of the steam-engine gives you an unforgettable experience. For full info click on the following website link:

Aberfoyle
Situated in the midst of the magnificent scenery of the Highland Edge offering many attractions for the visitor. Aberfoyle is 20 miles West of Stirling (Stirling is the Southern Gateway to the Trossachs and the beginning of the Scottish Highlands).

Callander
A Colourful, bustling holiday town set dramatically beneath high, wooded crags and close to the Pass of Leny. Sitting at the northern gateway to the Trossachs and the foot of the Highlands it gained fame as the location for the original "Doctor Findlay's Casebook" and now forms one of the Gateways to The Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. There is a bustling Main street with a range of traditional and modern shops and where you can visit Rob Roy and the Trossachs Visitor Centre.
Inversnaid
Situated on the banks of Loch Lomond, the ´Queen of the Scottish Lochs.

Loch Achray
The loch lies between Loch Katrine and Loch Venachar in the heart of the Trossachs and has an average depth of 11 metres. The south side of the loch is wooded and well served by woodland tracks and forest roads. The loch is popular with anglers who fish for brown trout. Loch Achray is well known for its sheltered location, giving rise to placid waters offering magnificent reflections of the woodland to the south, the mountains and forests to the north and the majestic crags of Ben Venue to the west.
Killin
The picturesque village of Killin nestles amidst spectacular Highland scenery, in the ancient district of Breadalbane, at the heart of the Scottish Highlands.
Killin offers peace and tranquillity lying as it does below the impressive Tarmachan and Ben Lawers range of mountains at the head of Loch Tay, with the celebrated Falls of Dochart tumbling through the very heart of the village
