 Castle Stalker

This year we decided to stay at home for our summer holidays. We had a ten day roadtrip right at the top of the country. We used Dornoch as our first base and Skye

for the next week . This was the first time we had been in Skye .What a wonderful island . We went right up to John o Groats.  Done a bit of Dolphin spotting.

The Highlands and Islands lie to the north and west of the Highland Boundary Fault, which runs from Arran to Stonehaven. This part of Scotland largely comprises ancient rocks from the Cambrian and Precambrian which were uplifted during the later Caledonian Orogeny. It is interspersed with igneous intrusions of a more recent age, the remnants of which have formed mountain massifs such as the Cairngorms and Skye Cuillins.

Superb days out or in Edinburgh`s case two weeks of shows ,acts and tons of free performances. Glasgow now has its own Westend festival which gets bigger every year and ends with a superb parade of bands and dancers. Shetland Island`s Up Helly aa  is my favourite. For one day in January [Lerwick the capital] returns to the days of the Vikings.
Highlight being being the parade and burning of the Long ship.

Walking is Scotland is superb .
Gentle strolls along  famous river banks,Long distance hikes likes the West Highland way ,Hillwalking or the craze of Munro Bagging. Munro`s are mountains over 3000ft. The views are stunning so take your camera.

Bairdstravel on the Westhighland way not far from Tyndrum

Scotland has five main international airports (Glasgow International, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow Prestwick and Inverness) which together serve 150 international destinations with a wide variety of scheduled and chartered flights. BAA operates three airports, (Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow International), and Highland and Islands Airports operates 11 regional airports, (including Inverness), which serve the more remote locations of Scotland.

Wonderful lochs . This is the holy loch great place for a picnic. The most famous Loch is the beutiful Loch Lomond. Not too far from Glasgow .
It`s the largest in the whole of the United Kingdom. There are lots
of small hamlets worth visiting on the shores of the loch .
Loch Ness is futher north and it has a monster to beware off.
