               EDINBURGH

Edinburgh has  a stunning back drop .  A tourists dream.
Bairdstravel loves to make a day trip through to Auld Reekie . The buzz of coming
out of Waverly station and there its . The castle [above] looks down on wonderful Princess street The city attracts 1 million overseas visitors a year, making it the second most visited tourist destination in the United Kingdom, after London. The Old Town has preserved its medieval plan and many Reformation-era buildings.

World famous Fringe

Edinburgh is a compact city - most of the sights and major tourist attractions are within the Old Town and New Town and are no further than a 15 minute walk apart. Walking along elegant or atmospheric streets is one of the pleasures of the city. There are however, a number of hills to be navigated; for example from Princes Street, up The Mound towards Edinburgh Castle requires some significant legwork, but it's worth it for the views en route.

Edinburgh - The Festival City
Festivals - what Edinburgh does best. The Edinburgh Festival is a generic term used to describe the cultural explosion which takes place in the city in August each year. It is in fact made up of a variety of festivals and events including the International Festival, The Fringe, Book Festival, Film Festival, Military Tattoo and the Jazz festival.

 boat trip from Queensferry

Take the local bus out to see the two Forth bridges .

Queensferry (often referred to as South Queensferry to distinguish it from North Queensferry), originally a Royal Burgh in West Lothian, is now part of the City of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is located some ten miles to the north west of the city centre, on the shore of the Firth of Forth between the Forth Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge, approximately 8 miles (13 km) from Edinburgh Airport. The town's population is around 12,000 people. The older Scottish Gaelic name is Cas Chaolas meaning "Steep Sided Strait".
