NEW YORK 2009
Bairdstravel was back in the Big Apple. We first visited the city in May 1995 . This time we arrived at the start of the fall. This page is designed to help you plan a budget trip to New York .
FLIGHTS
Your first cost is your flight . We got a good deal through British Airways.£340
Glasgow to London Heathrow. Then to JFK .You must book well in advance to get the best deals. Check Expedia they can have some good fares. But always
be flexible in your dates . There are flights direct from most major British airports but will up your cost.
Warning
$12 for a beer at JFK airport .That`s around £9 . I had swallowed half it before I
was asked for money. I only had one.
WHERE WE STAYED
Bairdstravel stayed at Hotel 31 . It was the the best deal we could get after weeks of searching the internet. It was clean and handy for the Empire State building ,Times Sq and all the midtown sights. If your on a tight budget stay here. If your looking for somewhere special to stay be ready to spend a large amount.

Where to stay
Out all the many visitors to the city [I know] The Wellington hotel is the most popular.
By New York`s standard is not too expensive and it`s very handy for Central park.
The Wellington Hotel is within easy walking distance of Broadway theatres and many fine restaurants and stands out among countless Midtown Manhattan New York hotels.
May be cheaper to book by hotel.com

In New York, there are more Italians than in Rome, more Irish than in Dublin and more Jews than in Tel Aviv The big apple stands out anytime, no matter who you are or what you’re interested in. But still, I was really shocked to see this. I mean, with Rome having more than 3.5 million people, Dublin at 1 million and Tel Aviv at more than 3, that’s almost 8 million people !
Not to mention the other nationalities (which are quite abundent), one can only wonder how many Americans are living in New York

The famous Yellow taxi
AIRPORT TRANSFERS
A taxi from the Airport will cost you a lot so we used Go Airlink.
Thanks to Grace for this info or we would have used the cab.
GO Airlink NYC provides on time, economical and safe share-ride van transfers, door-to-door in each direction between Manhattan and JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports. We serve hotels, neighborhoods, major transportation terminals and corporate offices with a fleet of modern, comfortable vans operated by a team of professional, trained and courteous drivers who know the City.

FOOD AND DRINK
Breakfast we ate at Guy and Gallard .It was just round the corner from our hotel at 31st and Park. Food was good, fast and tons of it. Try the pancakes,
bananas and maple sauce.
Dinner
Depended on where we were . Food is everywhere in the big Apple.
We had the usual hamburger and chips. Steak in Guy and Gallards.
Pizza in Lombardi`s. Which was excellant .Lombardi`s is in Little Italy.
Pasta at the pizza joint on Park Ave .
Drink
Alcholic drink is expensive for a budget minded visitor to the city.
Because of the poor value of the pound it certainly puts all costs up.
Saying that we still had a few .
SHARKIES LITTLE ITALY
Here some photographs of what`s free in New York .
Walking through Times Square if free and exciting.
Take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.
Take a walk through Central park.

It is host to approximately twenty-five million visitors each year. Central Park was opened in 1859, completed in 1873 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1963.

Walking round the city is easy but tiring . The first time we went we split the city into three days.
Day 1 Downtown
Day 2 Midtown
Day 3 Uptown
This time we spent most time in Midtown but ventured out to see a certain Area. Wear comfy shoes as you will walk till you drop .
The number 1 bus is great for tourist to get from uptown to downtown .
Buy a Metro Card from any Subway station . You can add on as many journeys
as you want.
