MILWAUKEE
Gee Bee and Geeeooo are now in Milwaukee . Taking the train from Chicago
to Milwaukee.
Day 3
Chicago to Milwaukee
We boarded the Amtrax train fron Chicago bound for Milwaukee and it was a bit sad pulling out of the station but we still have the knowing that we will have another couple of days on th way back to this great city. The train journey on the Hiawatha express to Milwaukee only took 1 hour 25 min and it was a smooth journey and was nice to watch the world go by and seeing open feilds as we travelled. We arrived about 5 pm into Milwaukee and took a taxi to the DOUBLETREE INN which is part of the Hilton group but the taxi journey was only 3$ as it was just a couple of blocks from the train station. The hotel was very spick and span and look great and it was rated one of the top 10 Doubletree Inn over they whole of the USA and what we saw it was very justified.
By the time we arrive and had a rest and freshened up we decided to stay local and have a couple of beer nearby in order to stay close to our hotel. We decided to try out the hotel bar and on entering the bar we found it full of the American Legions and there families as it was thier annual convention in downtown Milwaukee. There were guy who have served in different wars over the last years and george and I have the uttermost respect for each and everyone of them. After a beer or two we wnt further down the steet to a bar on the corners called MILLER TIME BAR which was full again of the Legion guys and it looked as everyone was having a great time.we then just walked about the town for a bit going to a Japanese bar and THE APPLETREE bar befor heading back to hotel bar for a night cap.
George back was playing up a bit so he headed to the room while I went to the bar to carry on the good name of the Gallon Club.I got talking to a great guy called James "Woody" Hogan from Pennsilvania who was a member of the AMERICAN LEGION. He was one of the guy who Organise his branch of the Leigon and makes sure everything runs smooth for thye vets and he links up with other branch to organise different events. As the night began to end he invited us to his boat anytime we were back in the states and gave me a badge which represents the Legion which was very cool so it was off too bed time tomorrow Day 4
Although this trip is fantastic we are not able to spend a lot of time in each city which makes it harder to see everything which is a great shame so we try and pick out a couple of things to do from each city.

Being Glasgow Famous Gallon Club menbers we decided to do the MILLER BREWERY TOUR no surprise there ha ha so we headed down to the Miller Time pub to have one before setting out.On talking to the bar man to get directions he also gave us a few sports bars where we could go to which was near Miller Park the stadium of the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team.We decide to try and get the bus but after waiting for about 15 mins in the heat which was in the low 90 degree we thought it would be better to get a cab which was only a 10 min drive from where we were. The drive was really good and it took you down between the Brewery on each side which was called the MILLER VALLEY. We started the tour and it gave you a 12 min prenetation of film about how and where everything was done to make up the Beers that made Milwaukee famous.
sergi on the train to milwaukee
After that it was onward for a 1 hour tour through the bottling pand and round the vats and casks were they are made into beer and then down into the HISTORIC CAVES where years ago the stored the beer in tunnels full of ice to make sure the beer was kept cool and fresh. At the end it was the best part of the tour where they gave out the free beer samples and I tried a normal Miller Lite the a Miller Blueberry which to my surprise was reallt good. After a quick stop at the Miller Shop for a couple of Souveniers then it was onward in a cab to a bar recomended by our barman called Kelly's Bleachers. As soon as we entered and order a drink the people in the place immediatly recognised our accents but like other people before their first thought was that we were Irish but one we corrected them telling that we were Scottish it was greatly accepted :-}.

The people in the bar were great and we had a great time talking too Diane Langlois,Jane Dillon-Perki,Ken Perki and Cheryl Priggs the bar maid who just love the Scottish accent and after a few beer we headed off to Derry.s Bar then Steve before heading back to our "local Bar" MILLER TIME. In the bar once again talking to o couple of Legion guys especially Chris Kelly from Boston now living in Houston Texas the it was on to bed to start our next journey onto Minnieapolis-St Paul.

Breweries are integral to Milwaukee's image, although the number of large scale operations dwindled in the last decade, the nick name "the Brew City" still rings true, and microbreweries are booming. In several spots around the city, the smell of yeast from the beer factories is quite strong. Milwaukee was once the home to four of the world's largest breweries: Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst, and Miller. For many years it was the number one beer producing city in the world. Of those four only Miller remains.
Miller-Coors Brewing Company offers excellent tours. Recently merged Miller and Coors now operate the brewery jointly but the tour is still based around the historic Miller operation. The tour begins with a short video of famous Miller commercials, continues to the original brewery to demonstrate the growth and progress of the company, and finishes at a pub for a little beer-tasting. To set up a tour call +1 800-944-LITE or go to [52]. Sprecher Brewery [53] (maker of beer, root beer, and sodas) is a well-respected local brewery on the North Side. Known for making the largest variety of beers of any local brewery. They also offer tours, tastings included. The sodas are popular as well, the kids and non-alcoholics will get plenty out of this tour as well. Make sure to look for their root beer at local businesses.
Lakefront Brewery is another small, locally-owned microbrewery specializing in handmade beers in the tradition of early Milwaukee brewers. Located along the Milwaukee River just north of downtown, at the foot of Brewers' Hill.
Milwaukee Brewing Company offers tours (on Friday and Saturday) of their growing operation in the Fifth Ward. Great Lakes Distillery[56] Its not a brewery, but they make premium "Rehorst" vodkas and gin. It is currently Wisconsin's only distillery. They also brew a seasonal pumpkin ale, and are currently working on developing a type of absinthe. They offer tours on Fridays, and Saturdays. Located near the Walker's Point neighborhood just south of downtown.

Amtrak serves downtown and an airport station. The newly remodeled Milwaukee Intermodal station offers connectivity to inter-city bus services and is located downtown a short distance from many attractions and hotels.
