KYLE OF LOCHALSH
Our stopover before the Isle of Skye . Long drive from Ullapool so we decided to stay the
night at Kyle of Lochalsh. The weather was dull but the views of the Skye bridge were fine.
We had dinner in the Kyle hotel which was filling. Since the bridge has been built we thought the town would have been dead but to our surprise it was busy with lots of tourists making it their base before going over the bridge.
Film above is from our Scottish roadtrip 2011 . The weather very poor as we drive over to Skye. The new bridge has killed the ferry from Kyle of Lochalsh .The bridge is now free .
Below is the Lochalsh hotel - the best landmark in Kyle of Lochalsh .
We got room looking out to sea .
Owner and staff were very friendly and helpful .
One of the girls is heading over to Americafor a year so it was great hearing about her new adventure. Breakfast was huge and the room was fine.
Yes enjoyed our stay at the Lochalsh.
In 1980, the BBC did a series of documentaries, entitled Great Railway Journeys of the World. Kyle of Lochalsh appeared in an episode entitled "Confessions of a Trainspotter", presented by Michael Palin. In the segment, Palin traveled by various trains fromLondon to the furthest north point by rail, Kyle of Lochalsh. Upon reaching the Kyle of Lochalsh, he purchased a large piece of railway memorabilia—the Kyle of Lochalsh railway platform sign. The ending credits showed Palin taking the oversized sign with him back to London, which he then hung on his garden wall at home.ent here
