24TH SEPTEMBER 2011
Just after 10.30 we left Clydebank and drove along the boulevard to Milton.
Where we fuelled up for our day out . Lorna is driving so I`m on the map .
Not long to we pass Balloch. Popular little town at the shore of Loch Lomond.
Worth an hour stop if your in the area .
Maid of the Loch is docked here . Sad to see the old steamer now a tearoom rather than taking tourists to see the highlights of this wonderful loch.
We now drive on the loch side passing the Duck bay marina,Luss and on to Tarbet .
Tarbet is a great stopping point for views of Ben Lomond and right down stunning Loch Lomond .

The road splits here. One leg goes straight to Arrochar and the other north to Fort William. We take the Arrochar route . After a short while we see the Cobbler in front of us.
The Cobbler is the nickname for Ben Arthur because of it`s ragged shape .
Round the bay on to Ardgartan then we start to climb all the way up to the Rest and be thankful. The Rest as it is known is a famous stopping point at the top of Glen Croe.
Glen Croe is a glen surrounded by large rugged mountains.[Arrocher Alps]
Drive on along the A83 to the hamlet of Cairndow .Then on to Inveraray .
He we parkup for an hour . We had been to Inveraray many times but it was still nice to
wander round . Inveraray has a picturesque setting on the banks of Loch Fyne .
The town has distinctive white buildings. It`s has a popular Jail which is now a museum.
There are two old Clyde Puffers moored at the pier . Eilean Eisdeal renamed the Vital Spark .

After a look round the touristy shops we head down to Furnace. Where we have lunch
in the Furnace inn. I have the haggis and Lorna has the Gammon steak .
Foods good in here. By chance football is on the TV .I`m accused of timing it to perfection.
After lunch we head back into Inveraray and take the A819 driving north up to Loch Awe .
We have great views of Kilchurn Castle here. The ancestral home of the Campbells of
Glen Orchy.

After a short stop to take a few photographs we drive to Tyndrum . Coffee in the Green Welly. Then on to Crianlarich. Back down the road to Tarbet .Where we stop to stretch our legs. Next stop is Firkin point. Great spot to walk along the bonnie banks of the Loch Lomond. The Old roadside walk is located between Inverbeg and Tarbet.
After our walk we drive home . Great day our not far from home.
Here are some images from the day
