   ICELAND AWAITS YOU
Iceland ,the land of ice and fire is an island well worth a visit . There`s no place on this earth like Iceland. Geysers,Volcanoes and wonderful waterfalls.
Below is a short film of the Volcano the erupted and it`s ash caused mayhem around Europe`s airports.

Þetta er leiðarvísir minn í þínu landi. Mig langar til að þakka þér fyrir að gera mig velkominn mest á meðan ég dvaldi á Íslandi og vonandi mun ég aftur fljótlega.Hafa a mikill dagur.

ICELAND WAS WELL  WORTH THE WAIT
After years stalling we finally made it to Iceland. We were not disappointed.  What a wonderful place this is.
Icecaps and glaciers, spouting geysers and steaming solfataras, volcanoes, raging rivers and magnificent waterfalls, a bevy of birds, cavorting whales offshore and much more are on your Iceland itinerary. Among lively Reykjavik's multitude of attractions are Hallgrimur's Church, geothermal baths and sizzling- hot nightlife. The Icelandic capital is the starting point for the Golden Circle Route driving tour through the southwest. The mineral-rich Blue Lagoon is a 40-minute drive from the city.

Reykjavík  is the capital and largest city of Iceland. The world's most northern national capital. It is located in southwestern Iceland, on the southern shore of Faxaflói Bay. With a population of around 120,000 (and over 200,000 in the Greater Reykjavik Area) it is the heart of Iceland's economic and governmental activity.

Epic video of Grimsvotn eruption in 2011. Stunning clips of the Icelandic volcano eruption underneath Vatnajokull. However this is more how it is in Reykjavik some 100 km away from Grimsvotn – Lay Low playing in swimmingpool Vesturbæjarlaug.

Icelandic culture has its roots in Norse traditions. Icelandic literature is popular, in particular the sagas and eddas which were written during the High and Late Middle Ages. Icelanders place relatively great importance on independence and self-sufficiency; in a European Commission public opinion analysis over 85% of Icelanders found independence to be "very important" contrasted with the EU25 average of 53%, and 47% for the Norwegians, and 49% for the Danes.

Some traditional beliefs remain today; for example, some Icelanders either believe in elves or are unwilling to rule out their existence. Iceland ranks first on the Human Development Index, and was recently ranked the fourth happiest country in the world.

WENT WHALE WATCHING THURSDAY 12TH JULY 2007

Excellent weather conditions for whale watching.
Spotted numerous minke whales all around the boats BUT NOTHING ELSE APART FROM CRAZY PUFFINS.

 http://www.whalewatching.is/

STOPPED AT PUFFIN ISLAND

This small but remarkable bird can dive down to 60 meters and fly at 80 km/hour. Tens of thousands of pairs nest in Puffin Island during the summer, during that period all whale watching trips stop by the island for a close encounter with the "flying clowns".

Did you know that beer was banned in Iceland till 1989?

The Republic of Iceland  is a European island country located in the North Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of about 320,000 and a total area of 103,000 km². Its capital and largest city is Reykjavík, whose surrounding area is home to some two-thirds of the national population. Located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Iceland is volcanically and geologically active on a large scale; this defines the landscape. The interior mainly consists of a plateau characterised by sand fields, mountains and glaciers, while many big glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Iceland has a temperate climate relative to its latitude and provides a habitable environment and nature.

Sport is an important part of the Icelandic culture. The main traditional sport in Iceland is Glíma, a form of wrestling thought to have originated in medieval times.

Popular sports are football, track and field, handball and basketball. Handball is often referred to as a national sport, Iceland's team is one of the top-ranked teams in the world and Icelandic women are surprisingly good at football relative to the size of the country, the national team ranked 19th by FIFA. Iceland has excellent conditions for ice and rock climbing, although mountain climbing and hiking is preferred by the general public. Iceland is also a world class destination for alpine ski touring and Telemark skiing with the Troll Peninsula in Northern Iceland being the center of activity. Iceland also has the most Strongman competition wins.

                        Best hotdogs in the world

Bairdstravel had the pleasure to eat a wonderful Baejarins Bestu hotdog

On a  street corner in Reykjavik stands a hot dog stall that is famous around the world. Bill Clinton, Metallica and just about every other famous and not so famous visitor to Iceland stops at Baejarins Bestu for a hot dog.

Baejarins Bestu is not much to look at. There are a few stools outside but otherwise not much shelter from the bitter Icelandic wind. The menu is limited to hot dogs and soft drink.Baejarins Bestu has had such success with their hot dogs that they have seen no need to diversify into other offerings such as chips or burgers.

This single minded devotion to the dog has paid dividends through Bejarins Bestu's international recognition. The hot dogs are made mostly from lamb and taste meaty rather than rubbery. The bun is fresh with a hint of sweetness and served with crunchy fried onions, tomato sauce, mayonnaise and mustard.
