World Trade Center, formerly known as the Freedom Tower, is the main building of the new World Trade Center under construction in Lower Manhattan in New York City, USA. The tower will be located in the northwest corner of the 16-acre (65,000 m²) World Trade Center site, bound by Vesey, West, Washington and Fulton streets. Construction on below-ground utility relocations, footings, and foundations for the 1,776-foot (541 m) building began on April 27, 2006. On December 19, 2006, the first steel columns were installed in the building's foundation.

FUTURE

Three other high-rise office buildings are planned for the site along Greenwich Street, and they will surround the World Trade Center Memorial, which is under construction. The area will also be home to a museum dedicated to the history of the site. On March 26, 2009, the Port Authority said that the building will be known as 'One World Trade Center', replacing its former name 'Freedom Tower'. When completed, One World Trade center will be the tallest building in the United States and the second tallest in the world.

THANK YOU JOE TORRILLO
We were shown round Ground Zero by ex New York fire fighter Joe Torrillo. Joe told us about his experiences on Sept. 11, 2001, when he was trapped beneath the rubble of the Twin Towers and woke up in a hospital.
Torrillo was taken to a New Jersey hospital where he was treated for a fractured skull, broken ribs and arm, internal bleeding and damaged eyes.
Because Torrillo had grabbed another firefighter's bunker gear that day, and because of the sheer pandemonium that took place, Torrillo was thought to be missing even after he was admitted to the hospital. By nightfall, one official declared Torrillo dead. News that Joe survived reached his family later that night.

The World Trade Center was an iconic structure and has been featured in numerous films as well as appearing in many television shows, cartoons, comic books, video games and music videos. Portions of Godspell were filmed at the top of the World Trade Center as the building was nearing completion.
A sequence in the Robert Redford movie The Hot Rock filmed in Summer 1971 featured shots of a helicopter flying around the partially uncompleted towers (where you can actually see inside the construction at one point), The final scene of the 1976 film King Kong took place at the World Trade Center instead of the Empire State Building where the scene had taken place in the original film.
