            EDINBURGH

Welcome to Bairdstravels guide to the Capital of Scotland. Edinburgh has one of the most beautiful cityscapes in the world,  making it the ideal city break destination. With Scotland's most famous castle dominating the city . Enjoy a few beers in Rose street or just wander along the world famous Royal mile. It`s a wonderful city for a weekend break.

Princes Street is one of the major thoroughfares in central Edinburgh, Scotland, and its main shopping street. It is the southernmost street of Edinburgh's New Town, stretching around 1 mile (1.6 km) from Lothian Road in the west to Leith Street in the east. The street is mostly closed to private cars, with public transport given priority. The street has virtually no buildings on the south side, allowing views of the Old Town, Edinburgh Castle, and the valley between.

Several UK high street brands are located along Princes Street. Bhs, Debenhams, House of Fraser, Marks & Spencer, Topman and Topshop department stores can be found at the west end. Jenners department store was an Edinburgh institution, surviving the disappearance of many other local department stores, such as Patrick Thompson's. There has been controversy over buildings from the later half of the 20th century on Princes Street.

Princes Street Gardens is a public park in the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. The Gardens were created in the 1820s following the long draining of the Nor Loch and the creation of the New Town. The Nor Loch was a large loch in the centre of the city. It was heavily polluted from centuries of sewage draining downhill from the Old Town. In the 1840s the railway was built in the valley, and Waverley Station opened in its present form in 1854.

EDINBURGH BRAND NEW TRAMS

Edinburgh Trams is a forthcoming tramway system which is currently under construction in Edinburgh, Scotland. It will be the first tram system in Edinburgh since the city’s previous network, Edinburgh Corporation Tramways, shut down in 1956.

The new tram system was originally scheduled to come into operation in July 2011, but the estimated completion date is now 2014, and will initially consist of one line running east-west across the city. Further extensions are planned. Originally budgeted at a cost of £512 million, the tram system is now anticipated to cost over £600 million.
