Altstadt is the German language word for "old city", meaning "historical city centre within the city wall"
Düsseldorf lies in the middle of the lower Rhine basin on the delta of the
Düssel River where it flows into the Rhine. The city is on the east side
Across the Rhine Neuss was built on the delta of the Erft river.
Düsseldorf lies southwest of the Ruhr mining district, and in the middle of the Rhine-Ruhr urbanized region. Düsseldorf is built entirely on alluvium, muds, sands, clays and occasionally gravels. The highest point in Düsseldorf is the top of Sandberg in the far eastern part
of the city (Hubbelrath borough) at 165 metres (541 ft). The lowest point is at the far northern end in Wittlaer borough where the Schwarzbach (Black Creek) enters the Rhine, with an average elevation of 28 metres (92 ft). Like the rest of the lower Rhinelands Düsseldorf has mild winters and moderately warm summers.
THE KONIGSALLEE
The Königsallee (nicknamed "Kö" by the locals) is a boulevard in Düsseldorf,
Germany noted for both the canal that runs along the boulevard's center, as well as for the luxury retail shopping venues located along its length.
The Königsallee stretches from Karl-Theodor-Str. to the Landskrone. A variety of exclusive and expensive shops can be found on both sides of the waterway, as well as huge department stores and shopping complexes.
The products available range from luxury fur coats to high-end electronics for audiophiles, and the gamut in between. Some of the most reputed jewelry shops, designer labels and galleries have their stores here, such as Cartier, Lacoste, Eickhoff, Jil Sander, Benetton, Gucci, Esprit, Laurel, Armani, Chanel, Escada, Hugo Boss, Kookaï, Prada and many more.
