CALGARY TOWER
The Calgary Tower is a 191 meter (627 foot) free standing observation tower in Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Its total weight is approximately 10,000 tons, of which 60%, or roughly 6,000 tons, is below ground.
The tower was built at a cost of $3,500,000, and was a joint venture between Marathon Realty Company Limited and Husky Oil. The landmark was intended as urban renewal program for Canada's Centennial. It opened to the public on June 30, 1968.The building is a founding member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
