BURRELL COLLECTION
After years of wondering what this Burrell Collection was all about I finally made the effort to venture over to the south side of Glasgow.
The Burrell is displayed in a museum in beautiful Pollok Park.
After checking the directions I decided to take the train from Glasgow Central.
I discovered that the Burrell was not far from Pollokshaw West station but
unfortunately I got on the train that was going to Pollokshields West .
Mm not very clever but it was ok the ticket collector told me to get off at Shawlands and pointed me in the right direction.
The Burrell has on display only a small amount of Sir William Burrell`s
collection. On 1944 the shipping magnate donated over 8000 items to Glasgow.
I was not disappointed and found the BurrelI very interesting and left with the feeling I had learned a lot.
The Thinker Rodin Ancient Egypt collection
Over 200 tapestries were aquired by Sir William Burrell. This is one of the largest and most important tapestry collections of its kind in the world.

The Museum was the result of an architectural competition. It was opened
in 1983. Care was taken to ensure harmony between the building and its collections and the park it is situated in.
Sir William Burrell continued to collect his treasures throughout his long life. He died in 1958, in his 97th year. The last purchase he made was a bronze cauldron from the 7th century BC.
