The town has two centres: "Città alta" (upper city), a hilltop medieval town, surrounded by 17th century cyclopic defensive walls, and the "Città bassa" (lower city). The two parts of the town are connected by funicular/cable car, roads, and foot-paths (the most convenient being immediately adjacent to the funicular station). Parking spaces are very limited in the upper city and non-local traffic is banned on the weekends.
Bergamo for the tourist
Bergamo is a beautiful city, the only one in the north which is divided into an upper part (the Citta alta) and a lower one (the modern development in the historical zone). The city is also surrounded by a large and green "Parco dei Colli".
Bergamo is increasingly a destination for tourists on short or long visits, from Italy and increasingly from abroad as well as schoolchildren of all ages.
| Milan Orio al Serio is located approximately 45 Km from the city of Milan. There's a cheap and easy way to get you to Milan centre: take Terravision bus and get to Milan in 60 mins at only €10 one way!
