     NEW YORK
New York is not the capital of USA. It's not even the capital of NY state. New York is the capital of everything else imaginable. Welcome to the world's greatest metropolis. This page cannot be a guide/ travelogue to one of the most mesmerising cities in the world.
This page is just a journal ... a diary of sorts ...for the things I loved in New York City

Statue of Liberty National Monument, measuring 151 feet on
a 154-foot pedestal (with a 35-foot waist and an 8-foot index finger),
is the tallest statue of modern times.

France presented the 450,000-pound Lady Liberty to the U.S. in 1884,
commemorating the alliance of the two countries
during the American Revolution.

Madison Square Madison Square, located in the Flatiron district, is one of the historically most important squares in New York City. The attractive 19th century Madison Square Park is surrounded by historic landmarks from the Gilded Age, including the famous Flatiron building and the classical Met Life tower. From 1859 onwards,
with the opening of the Fifth Avenue Hotel, the area started to become the centre of New York's social life.

Times Square
Times Square is the area between 40th and 53rd street
and 6th and 9th avenues. Times Square, home to Broadway and many landmark hotels, restaurants, shops and bars,
draws approximately 37 million visitors spending up to $16.4 billion annually.

DAY 3   Bit of a rest day   If there`s such a thing in the Big Apple
UPPER TOWN  OFF TO CENTRAL PARK

Central Park Its design is an example for city parks around the world. The 843 acre park boasts several lakes, theatres, ice rinks, fountains, tennis courts,
baseball fields, many playgrounds and other facilities.
It is also home to the Central Park Zoo and the
Metropolitan Museum of Art. A horse & carriage ride through the park is a must-do.

On December 8th, 1980 John Lennon was shot dead as he entered
his home at the Dakota Apartment
Building at 72nd St. and Central Park West.
A long time resident of New York City
Mr. Lennon had taken many walks with his wife and young son
through the friendly confines of Central Park.
Long a favorite son of his adopted city John Lennon wasn’t simply
New York’s Beatle, he was, for many, the embodiment of the spirit
on which city had been built. One half urbane cynic and one half romantic
dreamer, he unabashedly embraced the disparate parts which, as every
New Yorker knows, combine to form a uniquely gifted,
passionate individual.
We stand outside the Dakota buildings We ask doorman WHERE
ABOUTS  WAS JOHN LENNON WAS SHOT
HE HOLDS HIS CHEST AND SAYS ROUND ABOUT HERE SIR.

Feel a right plonker.    We cross the road to see Strawberry fields

The name of the site is taken from the Beatle’s song Strawberry Fields
Forever and was also, for John, an evocation of an orphanage in Liverpool by the same name. At the center lies the famous Imagine mosaic, donated by the city of Naples. There is also a bronze plaque that lists the 121 countries endorsing Strawberry Fields as a Garden of Peace.
Strawberry Fields opened on October 9, 1985, John's 45th birthday

DAY 4

HEAD SOUTH AGAIN

Bus down to South street pier  Go along to Brooklyn Bridge The construction of the Brooklyn Bridge started in 1869 and took 14 years to complete. The impressive bridge
spans the East river from Brooklyn to lower Manhattan and stretches
for about 1.5 km. A pedestrian path is available and gives you the opportunity to have a unique view on the south side of Manhattan, particularly on the magnificent Woolworth building.

The Brooklyn Bridge ranks as one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th century and remains on of New York's most popular and well known landmarks.

HAVE OUR LAST LOOK ROUND BEFORE FLYING HOME.
